My neighbor, Chris had a company at his house now for a couple of weeks working on his plumbing. They have done this – that – etc… The sewer line was found to be crumbling in a bathroom that had not been used for the better part of 30 years. The company didn’t initially know where to tie into the sewage - it was a time where many people could get frustrated. Chris declared to the company, that under no circumstances were they to tear up the concrete driveway, so they had better find another way. They finally traced the line and came up with a solution.
You know, in times like these – where we don’t see the end in sight, it can be overwhelming or daunting. Sometimes we might even draw a line in the sand, or better yet, carve a line in the concrete – with statements that are absolute – where we have no perceived flexibility.
But we are defined by how we react in all of these circumstances. Our character comes out when we are under duress. We are men and we should act like one - but, it’s not your plumbing that makes you a man, it’s your submission to God. That’s how God defines a man.
We know how we are saved right? Saved by grace through faith in Jesus – who died on the cross for our sins, - Ephesians 2:8 / Romans 10:9
We also know that God loves us.. but have you asked yourself the reason why YOU specifically would be saved? Ephesians 3:20
A few weeks back, I asked why do we go to work? What the purpose was behind it.. Got varying answers, but a majority of responses were to get bills paid.
But about salvation, if you were saved just so you can go to heaven – then you would just go to heaven for your salvation, you would already be there. You are here for a purpose… It’s not to collect a check or to see how many people you can cut off in traffic!
If you have children, there is a purpose. Ephesians 6 1-4 – NKJV - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
We also talked about what and who our fathers raised us to be. Imagine Devon coming to me at the age of 12, saying, daddy, look look – I just slam dunked the basketball. First thing I would think is – no way, but I’d go out and look. Come to find out, he lowered the basket to about 6 feet high. We’d get a quick laugh out of it and then I would then probably raise the goal back to the original height. Should we allow our children live by a lower standard?
Evangelist by the name of Tony Evans…
When he does a session – some piece of ministry or a word that he has – once he’s done, he finalizes the original which is the master soundtrack.
He then takes that, goes to a place that can make copies – which are identical to the master soundtrack, right?
If you want to pick up a copy of his latest session, you can go to Barnes and Nobles or Amazon or – in the world of the internet, in the world of a quick buck and people taking credit for other people’s work – you can probably pick up a copy anywhere you may not end up with an authentic copy – could end up with a forgery.
Jesus came on this earth, lived a perfect and sacrificial life, ministered for 3 years, spoke to the masses, never swore, never did anything wrong. His entire life can be seen as a master soundtrack.
When I am out in the world and when someone sees me, do they see the real deal? Am I an authentic copy or am I a forgery?
Remember the sin lists in the New Testament:
That question is a convicting one.
What if you die never knowing that you were chosen and what you were chosen for? Ephesians 2:10 / Jeremiah 29:11 / Colossians 1:9-14 / Ephesians 4:5-17
What if you keep limiting yourself or limiting what God can do in your life. What if you have never really taken seriously the calling Jesus has had in your life?
