Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
What is prayer?
Do you use prayer – do you think it’s useful?
What is it used for or what can be prayed?
Expression of faith/trust in God
Confession of sin
Praise of God’s mighty deeds
Thanksgiving for all we have received
Dedication to serve God and others
Requests for our needs and the needs of others
And on and on.
Is there a time where God does not hear prayer?
Isaiah 59:2 Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear
When prayer is answered based on the faith you have in the receipt of that prayer.
Matthew 9:27-30 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; and their sight was restored.

Why doesn’t prayer work sometimes? Is it in God’s will or your plan?
1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Are you being obedient or selfish?
Was the prayer answered with something other than what you thought you were asking?
Do you have an example?
Prayer that is answered in its fullest measure:
Matthew 7:7-11 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
What about praying for others?
Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
God’s timing is perfect and His will has a purpose. As a non-believer or someone that is not saved, the Lord does not hear those prayers, because their face is covered by sin and He cannot hear.- Isaiah 59:2 However, the moment we call out to Him, and say “Jesus is Lord” and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead – there is salvation and we will be heard.- Romans 10:9
Intent and faith related to our prayers are two examples that can impact - how, if or when our prayers are answered….. Do we listen or see His answer to our prayers?? We could have walked the same path or done the same thing a hundred times, but missed it – even though it was right there all along.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!
