We know what it takes to be saved: (some scripture on the subject)
Romans 10:9 - that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Ephesians 2:8-10 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Acts 4:12 - Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Some people believe that someone once saved is always saved. What do you think?
Just because someone says they are a Christian, does that mean that they have a relationship with Jesus Christ?
Matthew 7:16, 20 - You will know them by their fruits.
Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
How are we to be judged?
By God for final verdict and by ourselves and by other men, so that we get it right while we are here on earth.
We know that God is the final judge – it’s in scripture…
Convictions (that small voice inside of us) and judging ourselves in comparison to what is in the bible. But how will you know?? Where do you look for the authority on the subject?
II Timothy 3:16 - All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Part of our responsibility as Christ followers is to read and understand God’s word and insure that we don’t violate it.
What about how we are to help one another???
Matthew 7:4-5 - Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Countenance – what someone accepts, supports, or approves of (something)
Matthew 28:19-20 - Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Here’s the point. How many times have you found yourself telling someone who is trapped in sin and is reaching out to you – but you say, “Oh hey – everyone does that, it’s ok.” Or “Don’t beat yourself up over that, you don’t do it all the time”.
Matthew 18:6-9 - “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!
*In other words, don't be the person through whom stumbling comes, by giving counsel to someone saying, it’s alright. You are enabling them in their sin...
How many times have you lined up, eye-to-eye with someone and told them, “I know where you’re coming from, but I would be dishonoring my relationship with Jesus, if I didn’t tell you that God has something so much better for you, than….” (whatever it is that they are doing – contrary to scripture/God’s will for us)
If we’re honest with ourselves, we may have already had a conviction on something. But if we haven’t responded to either God, the Holy Spirit or man – then we should really consider this piece of scripture:
Romans 1:32 - who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
1 John 2:15-17 - Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
Salvation is a lifelong journey, this scripture discusses part of the journey:
Philippians 2:12-13 - Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
But there is hope. Great hope and victory to be had with Him as the guide:
1 Peter 2:21 - For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps...
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 Peter 4:10 - As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 - Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
1 Peter 4:11 - If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
