God Paid It Foward

What happens to those without the Gospel

For any of this to have bearing, one simple truth needs to be examined within each of our hearts.  Either the Bible is a book of history with no merit OR the Bible is the true and infallible word of God.  There is no in-between.  Without belief in the bible, the answers below will be irrelevant.

***** If the bible is true to you, read the scripture below and draw your own conclusions.

Also note, that this is only from the bible and not doctrinal.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 -All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Revelation 22:18-19 -  For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take awayhis part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

This is in response to a friend’s question and a question from one of the men in our study group,  “Are people who never hear about Jesus going to hell?  Someone in Iraq, Africa or elsewhere?”

If someone has never heard the name of Jesus and they are located in a remote village in a thatched hut in the middle of the desert, will they be forced into the presence of God for eternity.  It isn't an easy question to ask and the answers aren't much easier to digest.  But God is great, God is Just and Jesus is the answer.

Adam brought about condemnation – Jesus is justification for life everlasting:

  • Romans 5: 18-19   Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Old Testament prophesy of the time when Jesus will come and a new covenant will be made

·         Jeremiah 31:31-33 -  “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.  But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

New Testament – new covenant made, laws written into their hearts and minds

·         Hebrews 10:16 - “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”

Some believe that the above scripture is limited to those who accept Christ first.  Romans 2:12-16 brings clarity.

Those who had not heard the law:

  • Romans 2:12-16  For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law  (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselvestheirthoughts accusing or else excusing them) in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

God is fair: (everyone gets the same opportunities)

·         Matthew 5:45 - that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

·         2 Peter 3:9 -  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

God will be patient for us to repent (turn away from our sin.  This does not mean for us to just apologize or confess knowing full well that we have not repented or “changed your mind” about that sin).  He won’t change our mind for us, nor can anyone do it for you – it’s not just a choice, but a willingness to die of our sin (deny ourselves) and live for Him (take up our/his cross daily)

God is seen by all:

·         Romans 1:18-20 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

God is heard by all:

·         Psalm 19:1-4 - The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their linehas gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,

·         Romans 10:17-18 - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.”

God Judges according to what we know:

Luke 12:46-48 - the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.  And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

What about innocent children?

Children as “having no knowledge of good and evil”:

  • Deut 1:39 –  ‘Moreover your little ones and your children, who you say will be victims, who today have no knowledge of good and evil, they shall go in there; to them I will give it, and they shall possess it.

Children born into pagan families:

  • Ez 16:20-21 – 20 “Moreover you took your sons and your daughters, whom you bore to Me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your acts of harlotry a small matter, 21 that you have slain My children and offered them up to them by causing them to pass through the fire?

Children in pagan families are innocent:

  • Jer 19:4-5 “Because they have forsaken Me and made this an alien place, because they have burned incense in it to other gods whom neither they, their fathers, nor the kings of Judah have known, and have filled this place with the blood of the innocents (they have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or speak, nor did it come into My mind)

There is an age or time when children become accountable to good and evil.

After death do people get a second chance?:

Some people suggest that there is scripture in the bible where Christ speaks to the dead, to offer them salvation: (context is so important here)

·         1 Peter 4:6 - For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit

After reading this, sounds like dead are being preached to…  Perhaps a second chance?

Now read these scriptures:

·         Colossians 2:13 -  And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

·         Ephesians 2:1 - And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

·         Ephesians 2:4-5 - But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)

Now read this scripture one more time, in context:

·         1 Peter 4:6 - For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit

Another reference, however I bring this up with much caution*** 2 Maccabees (extra-biblical in the catholic bible – Old Testament  Apocrypha, ) – suggests that there is a place to linger or dwell, with a “chance” of being saved – aka Purgatory:

·         Written prior to Jesus’ coming

·         Idolatry was committed as part of salvation

·         Purchasing a burn sacrifice to help remove sin

·         Making atonement for sin

This is a problematic stance to have, based on 2 Maccabees… and it does not take into account Jesus’ coming.  Below are Biblical statements that God does not want sacrifice, nor burnt offerings.

·         Hosea 6:6 - For I desire mercy and not sacrifice,
And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

·         Psalm 40:6 - Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;
My ears You have opened.
Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

·         Hebrews 10:8 - Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law),

·         Psalm 51:16 - For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.

What happens after we die?:

·         Hebrews 9:27 - And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,

·         Luke 16:31 - But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

If the scripture in Luke doesn’t make sense – read the context from Luke 16:1-30 (this is an important message)

On Earth, before death we get a second chance:

And 3rd chance:

·         Romans 10:9-10 - that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

And 4th chance:

·         Acts 16:31 - So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

And 5th chance:

·         John 3:36 - He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

There are dozens of scripture on this topic.

What about just being a good person (not a Christian) and doing good on Earth, to earn heaven through good deeds or being good:

·         Isaiah 64:6 - But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

This is Jesus speaking, saying No one is good but One, that is, God.

  • Matthew 19:17 -  So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.

What about the golden rule??  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  The problem here… It doesn’t say “Try” is says “Do also to them”.  If someone wants to live off of this one, they would have to do it perfectly.  We could wish them good luck.

  • Matthew 7:12 - Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

I know people who are another religion(s) and they are such good people:

·         Exodus 20:3 - “You shall have no other gods before Me.

o    Buda, Allah, Squirrels, Walnut trees etc are all examples of what someone might bow down to as a god.  They are not the one true God.

·         *** Matthew 6:24 - No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

·         Exodus 20:4-6 - “You shall not make for yourself a carved imageany likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

A carved image or created image in your head as to what or who God is:

o    something you would pray to instead of God directly

o    someone you would pray to instead of the Trinity – being God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit

The bible is clear: “For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations to those who hate Me…”

If someone does not serve the one true God, through the grace provided by Jesus, then that person hates Him.(God/Jesus)  This is a pretty brutal realization.

Saved by grace:

We are saved by grace, not by works and not by someone sprinkling some water on you and praying over you as an innocent child.  No person can save you, nor forgive you in the place of a personal relationship with Jesus.  It surpasses religious beliefs and any brand name of Christianity.  It is our trusting in Jesus and repenting of sin.  Repent comes from the Greek word “metanoia” which means to “change your mind”. Turning away from sin, to go a different way…  “narrow is the gate, and difficult is the way” as mentioned in Matthew 7:13-14

·         Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

  • Romans 10:17 - So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

·         Titus 3:5 - not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

·         2 Corinthians 5:21-  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

·         1 Thessalonians 1:9 - For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God

·         2 Corinthians 7:9-10 - Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

God’s Judgment:

·         Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

·         John 5:24 -  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

·         Revelation 20:11-15 - Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.  The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.  Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

·         John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

The way:

·         Matthew 7:13-14 - “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Becausenarrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

The truth: (Jesus fulfills the law and as God incarnate is the source of all truth.)

·         Psalm 119:142 - Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth.

·         Matthew 5:17 - “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

·         John 1:1 -In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The life: (Jesus is the Lamb and the book is God’s)

·         Revelation 21:27 - But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Those who thought they were saved:

Just knowing the commandments is not enough – trust in Jesus and repentance must take place.

·         Romans 3:20 -  Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin

  • Matthew 7:21-23  Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Work out your own salvation – don’t leave your salvation to chance:

  • Philippians 2:12-13 -  Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Your eternal life is even more important than the one you are living today.  If you have question, turn to scripture or ask someone who you know to be a Christian, by the fruits they produce and their stead-fastness in belief.  Swapping from Baptist to Pentacost to Assembly to Catholic to Mormon may be a sign that someone is not steadfast in their belief.

Google searches are a bad place to learn about Christianity.  Trust me.  Years ago, I looked up scripture, to determine if masturbation was biblically ok.  Man, there were tons of people who said, I’m a Christian and I do that all the time.  When I dug deeper, they told me some very revealing and non-biblical beliefs they had.

It is important to note here that God will not force us into His presence.  If we have not accepted Jesus as our Savior, we will not be in the presence of God.  If we are not in the presence of God, then that leaves the lake of fire or hell.

Christ’s comments in Luke:

It is NOT easy to do as Christ says below – Sin equates to fun and living Holy equates to stuffiness.  Each of us has to admit that we love our sin.  But then we have to repent (deny ourselves) once we realize it is not in God’s will for us.  And finally, a matter of taking up our daily cross and following Jesus.

·         Luke 9:23-27 -  Then He said to them all, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.  For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.  For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?  For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.”

Additional Scripture:

For people who have read the Bible or parts of it and ignore the scripture or reword it to fit into their own agenda.  (Those who would pass on lies to others or misquote the bible)

  • Revelation 22:18-19 -  For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
  • James 3:1 - My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
  • Hebrews 5:12-14 - For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.  But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

·         Matthew 18:6 - “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

·         Acts 8:12 - But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

What an amazing opportunity it was to evangelize in Germany.  The trip may be over, and we may be back at it, with "life" but God moved in amazing ways and is continuing to do so.

God is so good!!!
