Matthew 24:24 - For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
People will be deceived by false prophets. We’ve seen it happen to many people, even churches. But who are these elect? (We read in Kings, how many of them led their people to destruction)
Matthew 24:3-6 - Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Many will be deceived, because they don’t know.
II Thessalonians 2:3-4 - Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Proverbs 12:22 - Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.
How will you know what is true???
Psalm 119: 9-16
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes. With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
Take away: To have truth revealed, we have to spend time with God; Prayer, reading of the Word – and memorization of verses to have for those “rainy days”, and Holy Spirit convictions – are all ways to help us know what’s true. We must have discernment of what is fed to us and even reevaluate what we have already been heard and captured in our heads - then compare it against God’s Word and have him burn away what isn’t of Him.
Hosea 4:6 - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Job 36:12 - But if they do not obey, They shall perish by the sword, And they shall die without knowledge.
Proverbs 5:23 - He shall die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
Proverbs 10:21 - The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.
2 Corinthians 2:14 - Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
2 Corinthians 9:11 - while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.
When people question God’s motives, when sinners prosper and the righteous struggle – or said perhaps another way – when bad people have “stuff” or good fortune and good people “struggle” – feel beaten down. The following scripture discusses this topic - Psalm 73:1-17
